I am 20, have 'good skin' and am need of a new foundationy type substance. I like using a liquid foundation applied with fingers, then using a powder on top applied with a brush. So, what I'm asking is, am I going the right way about things, what should I be looking for and and recommendations?

It's sounds as though you're doing all the right things! At 20 and blessed with good skin you could maybe go for something lighter tough in the daytime and save a fuller-face of make-up for night. In which case I'd suggest you try a tinted moisturiser - Laura Mercier has a beautiful, light-weight one, £32, available from Space NK, and while you are in there it's worth looking at the Chanteailler Just Skin too, £52. Both give a good skin-evening coverage and a soft dewy finish.
