My advice would be to get thee to a department store and spend an hour in the company of a personal shopper. John Lewis offers this service, and you'll be amazed at what you learn about your shape, your size and your preferences.
If you can't deal with quite such an overhaul, get yourself a big black plastic bag, and turf in anything that you haven't worn in the past two years. Be ruthless, not sentimental. Whittle your wardrobe down to: 3 pairs trousers, 2 pairs jeans, 3 day dresses, 2 evening/cocktail dresses, 3 sweaters of various weights (polo, turtle, crew, V), 1 trouser suit, 1 blazer or jacket, 2 shirts, plenty of T-shirts - and then all your accessories. Keep a couple of frivolous items, just for fun - but ditch the things that are weighing your wardrobe down. This is exactly what a stylist would do if you invited one into your house (and, if you do, choose Laura Campbell of www.campbellandbathurst.com - she's one of the best in the business).
Finally, do try to stick to 4 or 5 colours which work together. So it's out with that mustard-coloured V neck, and in with a calm, sleek closet that's easiness itself.
