I’ve heard pear cider is making a comeback – are there any brands in particular to look out for?

Answer from Nicola Jeal
Pear cider has now become tipple of choice – as drunk by Kate Moss on location (at a festival) or warmed up during the winter months. Kopparberg is the most bar-friendly pear cider, a very sweet, Swedish reinvention of the country classic, sold at The Lock Tavern in Camden (www.lock-tavern.co.uk). After Glastonbury festival, Brother’s pear
cider became Lily Allen’s favourite, (available at Threshers, Asda and Majestic). But it’s possible to get the real stuff – Oliver’s (Oliver’s Cider and
Perry, Ocle Pychard, Herefordshire Tel. 01432 820569) still handpick their pears, grown in the three Counties of Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire, and have avoided the use of pesticides despite growing demands. Bravo. www.theolivers.org.uk
