I want to send some fairy cakes to a friend who's just had a baby. Any idea of bakeries that will deliver (I live in London)?

I agree with wendymae, Hummingbird on Portobello Road definitely does the best cupcakes, but if you want them to have the little fairy cake wings, you'll have to stick them into the icing yourself.

How about making your own and getting a handsome man in leathers to courier them round? We all grew up making fairy cakes, didn't we? And just think, you get to nibble on some jelly diamonds...

If your friend lives in London too she'd probably love it if you made a Nigella Lawson chocolate cake (even if it's not great), took it round, made her tea, gave her cake (put it near enough to reach if she's feeding the baby) and chatted to her (then she knows she's still a person not just her new baby's mum). You could even take the baby for a wander or a cuddle so she can actually have a bath. That's what I'd really have liked when I had my babies! Cup cakes nice, friendly practical visitors with choc cake better...
