Answer from Mimi Spencer Guru
Always start from your best bit and work down. So if you've got the legs, show 'em off. Go for a cocktail -ength dress (perhaps in organdie, organza, lace, or some other delicious fabric), and wear with a matching coat to the same length. This will circumnavigate the tum (hurrah). If you like your boobs, choose a V-necked dress, or one with a fitted bodice which shows it off. Most wedding shops now have a range of options for civil ceremonies or for women who don't want the whole white fandango.

Personally, I'd choose something by a designer like Valentino (if your budget stretches that far) or Alberta Ferretti (at Harvey Nicks, Harrods, Browns etc). Or try their diffusion lines: Valentino's are called Red, and Oliver (named after one of his 4 pug dogs); Ferretti's is called Philosophy. Actually, she caters for these occasions brilliantly, and is a woman who understands the art of dressing the female form.
